How would you start the first lesson on medieval history?
Q. If you were going to teach a unit on medieval history for year 9s, what would you do in your first lesson? To get their attention and interest, but also still be in control and get something learnt of some sort? And would you do the unit chronologically, or thematically? I'm leaning towards thematically but there's so much overlap

A. Start with some statistics from the plague, etc. Or describe the way in which battles were fought and the weapons used, students love that kind of info. Thematically would be the most interesting way to go.
