The Middle Ages of European history (adjectivial form medieval or mediæval) is a period of international history covering roughly a millennium in the 5th century through 16th centuries. It is commonly dated from the fall of the Western Roman Empire, and contrasted with a later Early Modern Period; the time during which the Reformation and the rise of humanism in the Italian Renaissance unfolded are generally associated with the transition out of the Middle Ages, with European overseas expansion as a succeeding process, but such dates are approximate and based upon nuanced arguments.

More specific starting and ending points are sometimes adopted by scholars to suit their respective specializations or current focus. In particular, in British history, the Middle Ages are often understood to start at the Norman conquest of 1066 and continue through to about the end of the 15th century (the era between the fall of the Roman Empire and the Norman conquest is referred to as the Anglo-Saxon period). "Periodization issues" are discussed in later section of this article.

The Middle Ages included the first sustained urbanization of northern and western Europe. Many modern European countries owe their origins to events and trends in the Middle Ages; present European political boundaries are, in many regards, the result of the military and dynastic outcomes during this period.

Why do you think Medieval authors, namely Chaucer, challenged the common outlook on women?
Q. Through the works of these authors (such as Canterbury Tales) we can see evidence of Medieval authors writing about women in a new light, contrary to how they were spoken of during the Middle Ages.

A. I think you've answered your own question. Women were shown in a new light. The Miller's tale is a clear example. it shows women controlling their sexuality and, in fact, being sexually aggressive. A heavy concept for those days.

What is the difference between the Middle ages, the Medieval Ages and the Dark Ages?
Q. What is the difference between the Middle Ages, the Medieval Ages and the Dark Ages? Why were they called the Middle Ages, the Medieval Ages and the Dark Ages?

A. The sacking of Rome in 410 AD by Alaric, leader of the Visigoths caused the gradual fall of the Western Roman Empire. By 476 AD the last Roman Emperor was deposed, beginning a new era, this being the Middle Ages. It is also referred to as "Medieval" in history, so the two terms are alike. The Dark ages is simply a word used to describe the early Middle Ages from 476 AD to approximately 1000 AD. It is named the Dark Ages because it was a specific period of time where there was very little technological development or advances in knowledge, where the quality of life for the people was moving backwards and they suffered as a result. There are several theories as to when the Middle Ages declined and the Renaissance period started. 1. The… [cont.]

A. Gonna give you a couple of links. The first is to a site called "The Forge," and has descriptios and images of armor and weapons. The second is to the Higgins Armory in Worchester, Mass. Higgins was a big collector of medieval armor and his collection ended up becoming this particular museum. You can check their online collection and reshearch section for help.
