Q. Deep in my family tree, there are several "English surnames of Norman/French origins" due to the Norman conquest of England in 1066. So my questions are - Did the Normans mix with the English when they arrived? Or did the English hear the Norman surnames and take them as their own? Thanks in advance for your responses. Surnames of course often change in spelling etc over time and only really became standardized late in the 2nd millenium (in britain anyway). Its important to remember that what you have down as norman/french may be open to debate considering the distinct differences between those two groups.
