From Wiktionary under the GNU Free Documentation License. A religion is a set of beliefs concerning the cause, nature, and purpose of the universe, especially when considered as the creation of a supernatural agency or agencies, usually involving devotional and ritual observances, and often containing a moral code governing the conduct of human affairs. Aspects of religion include narrative, symbolism, beliefs, and practices that are supposed to give meaning to the practitioner's experiences of life. Whether the meaning centers on a deity or deities, or an ultimate truth, religion is commonly identified by the practitioner's prayer, ritual, meditation, music and art, among other things, and is often interwoven with society and politics. It may focus on specific supernatural, metaphysical, and moral claims about reality (the cosmos and human nature) which may yield a set of religious laws, ethics, and a particular lifestyle. Religion also encompasses ancestral or cultural traditions, writings, history, and mythology, as well as personal faith and religious experience. The term "religion" refers to both the personal practices related to communal faith and to group rituals and communication stemming from shared conviction. "Religion" is sometimes used interchangeably with "faith" or "belief system," but it is more socially defined than personal convictions, and it entails specific behaviors, respectively. Q. I was just wondering. Many religions claim men are superior to women. Is there any religion which states women are greater than men. At least that they are equal. Why do you think many religions consider men to be superior? Is it because all the founders of the religions happen to be men? If so its time we start our own religion. What do you think? Asked by Reality - Wed Nov 5 11:00:34 2008 - - 17 Answers - 8 Comments A. I think you are right when you say religions consider man to be superior because the founders are men themselves. But why care about what religions say. In other words what men say. We know the truth. Women gives birth to children, care for them, teach them what is right and what is wrong. Women do lots of sacrifices that men don't. Today we earn and support our families don't we. The women of the 21st century is way ahead than man. I mean how many men do we find helping women with house work where as we support the countries economy. Answered by mayumi j - Thu Nov 6 00:29:20 2008 What religion embraces both the positive and negative aspects in life? Q. Life isn't all rainbows and joy. While positive things are what humans tend to focus on, negative things are still apart of the order of life and Nature. When I say positive, I speak of life, light, order, joy, etc. Negative would be death, darkness, chaos, anger, etc. What, if any, religion embraces and perhaps uses both of these concepts, be it in the nature of their gods, in practice, belief, etc? Any Pagan or pantheism based religions? Asked by Ryan - Sun Sep 13 19:17:09 2009 - - 5 Answers - 1 Comments A. Many forms of Wicca acknowledge that death, pain, and destruction exist and have their place in the natural order of things. We choose to focus (generally speaking) on life, pleasure, and creation. but are prepared to deal with the "negative" aspects of existence when necessary. There are times when pain teaches valuable lessons, and when it is necessary and good to bring things to an end, and when chaos is the breeding ground for creativity and inspiration. Answered by prairiecrow - Sun Sep 13 20:06:32 2009 What religion would cause you to be against micro-chipping your pet?
Q. I read an answer on another question where someone said they were against microchipping because it was against their religion. Can anyone explain this to me? New Years Eve Basset: Could you elaborate on that more? I think they said something like that in their answer, but I don't understand what they mean by it/what it means. Asked by amyjp612---RIP Triana - Mon Dec 29 17:00:19 2008 - - 20 Answers - 1 Comments A. There was a question similar to this awhile back. Apparently it has something to do with some passage in the Bible, wherein the "Mark of the Beast" is described. Apparently some seriously literal Christians take microchips to be the devil's work, the "Mark of the Beast" on their dogs... ...yes. Really. Hopefully someone who has actually read the Bible (well, more than just the cool Old Testament stories) can clarify. ADD: Well, if I remember my movies correctly, Damien (little boy in "The Omen") had the Mark of the Beast -- a 666 birthmark on his scalp. And he turned out to be the antichrist. So your dog may sic his dogs (Rottweilers, the Hounds of Hell) on your nanny if he has a microchip.
