What would make an interesting speech topic regarding Scotland?
Q. Scotland is a wonderful place and too broad to cover in a speech of only a few minutes. Therefore, I do not want to bunch up random topics into a giant shapeless conglomerate. However, I do not want too narrow of an topic, so that I may not be able to work with it. Anything would be appreciated. I prefer somebody who has a distinct idea of Scotland.

Should I study abroad in Scotland during the autumn or spring semester?
Q. I plan on studying abroad next year in Scotland, but I'm not sure whether I should go for the Fall/Autumn or Spring semester. I'm interesting in photography, and so plan to take lots of pictures of the scenery. I also want to go see lots of the castles in Scotland. Can anyone who lives in or has visited Scotland give me some feedback on which would be a better time to go? Thank you! Oh, and should I go to the University of Glasgow or Edinburgh? Thanks!

A. Edinburgh is more expensive but is more historical and beautiful, although Glasgow has good shopping and facilities although there are places that you should stay away from. edinburgh has one castle that i know of. you could study in aberdeen (3 hours from edinburgh) its a smaller city and has two great universities ( i recommend robert gordons) you can study art and photography there and aberdeenshire (outskirts of aberdeen) is just beautiful! lots of countryside, lakes, castles, rivers, hill walks and wildlife, the students have a great social life and are dedicated with there work. i think the best time (weather wise) is spring, it doesnt really matter but spring always seems to be a bit nicer than autumn as it can rain quite a bit. … [cont.]

What are the best places to visit in Scotland when traveling with two teenage boys and a 9 year old?
Q. We want to tour Scotland again, but this time want to be sure that the boys are somewhat entertained along the way...hopefully this will make our travel experience more bearable! We have already seen Stirling, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Loch Lomond, Ayr and Aberdeen. Any thoughts on what would be interesting for all of us? As long as the boys have a few things to look forward to along the way, that should keep them quiet (hopefully). Thanks so much for any advice you can give.

Q. I am currently living in Ireland and planning on going to scotland for the summer to live and work. However, my passport has just recently gone out of date. A. Let me try to answer your question and also try to keep to stay polite. You have asked it from Y!A United States and you state that you are "currently" living in Ireland, hence it is hard to answer without actually knowing your citizenship. The other answers you have gotten are based on the fact that you are a British or Irish citizen which I don't believe. Should you be a U.S. citizen and are currently staying in the Republic of Ireland you will need a valid U.S. passport to travel to Scotland; you also cannot work in the United Kingdom without holding a proper U.K. Tier 1/2 visa. The requirement not to hold a passport for travelling within the Common Travel Area applies to British and Irish citizen only. .. Should you hold British… [cont.]

How would Scotland Cope if they Gained Independence from the Union with England?
Q. 1 in 3 people in Scotland work in the Public sector (ie wages paid for by Central UK Govt). They cost far more than they submit in Tax revenue. How would they pay for their Independence apart from huge amounts of money from the EU (as Ireland did, and now their boom days are over). Im interested to know how Mr Salmon would pay for it?

A. Scotland has substantial natural resource and just 5 million people to sustain, of course it would survive. Generation of renewable energy has a huge future in Scotland - we can sell the surplus to the English. Without the money generated in London I don't think the future for the rest of England would be any different, so please get off your high horse.

What is the connection between Liverpool and Scotland?
Q. Hey, what is the connection between Liverpool and Scotland? And where did it come from? Liverpool is the most popular non-SPL team in Scotland, Liverpool FC has always quite a lot of Scottish players (until Scotland stopped producing good players like Dalgliesh and Hansen). Not only in football but culturally they share a lot of ties, for example use of a lot of the same folk songs (in and out of football). I don't get it?
Asked by Jonathanjackson Jackson - Tue Aug 10 19:20:15 2010 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Catholicism, Celtic heritage, similar social problems. The very first Liverpool team (after the split with Everton) was composed entirely of Scotsmen and was known as the team of Macs - the manager had connections in Glasgow and took a trip up there to collect players. Winning the Lancashire league that season they were eventually accepted into the football league in the second division which they then won and beat Newton Heath/ Manchester United in the playoff to gain promotion to the first division - United became the first team ever to be relegated and it was liverpool that did it to them.

A. I don't know if you know this, but the SFA and the FAW are planning a joint bid for a Celtic Euro 2016, in Wales and Scotland. But the plan is flawed for many reasons. 1: Each country needs 4 stadiums over 35,000 seats in capacity. Scotland, with development for Pitodree would have this easily. But Wales has the Millenium as the only stadium that at present would qualify for the competition. Swansea's Liberty Stadium can be extended to as much as 38,000 seats, and Cardiff's new stadium I'm sure could also be extended. But where's the 4th stadium coming from? Wrexham's racecourse would be a white elephant if converted to a 35,000 seater stadium. Their attendances never rise above 9,000. 2: UEFA forbids two stadiums being used in the same… [cont.]

A. First of all it's probably best that you learn the language, then research the countries to see which suits you best, i.e what's important to you schools, night life, work prospects etc... then contact the local embassy of the one that comes out top of your list they should be able to give you all the specific info you need.

What is the best way to trace your ancestors in Scotland?
Q. I have traced my family (or part of it) back to 1876 by my own inquiring into relatives and witnesses, yet I came across a dead end when I learned there is legal restrictions in Scottish Law that prohibit someone from obtaining nationally archived records of somebody else within the last 100 years. A. Some good search sites follow but I have been told by others who have done research in other countries that it is best to hire a profession in the area that you need to research because they are familiar with the resources and some countries even have legislation that require non-citizens to have a 'guide' for any record search. Also, most of the people I know who have done this feel they got their money's worth and then some.
