From Wiktionary under the GNU Free Documentation License. Society or human society is the manner or condition in which the members of a community live together for their mutual benefit. By extension, society denotes the people of a region or country, sometimes even the world, taken as a whole. Used in the sense of an association, a society is a body of individuals outlined by the bounds of functional interdependence, possibly comprising characteristics such as national or cultural identity, social solidarity, language or hierarchical organization. Human societies are characterized by patterns of relationships between individuals sharing a distinctive culture and institutions. Like other communities or groups, a society allows its members to achieve needs or wishes they could not fulfill alone. A society, however, may be ontologically independent of, and utterly irreducible to, the qualities of constituent individuals; it may act to oppress. The urbanization and rationalization inherent in some, particularly Western capitalist, societies, has been associated with feelings of isolation and social "anomie". More broadly, a society is an economic, social or industrial infrastructure, made up of a varied collection of individuals. Members of a society may be from different ethnic groups. A society may be a particular ethnic group, such as the Saxons; a nation state, such as Bhutan; a broader cultural group, such as a Western society. The word society may also refer to an organized voluntary association of people for religious, benevolent, cultural, scientific, political, patriotic, or other purposes. A "society" may even, though more by means of metaphor, refer to a social organism such as an ant colony. From Wikipedia under the

What do you think the role of human service workers will be in the future? Asked by Nezbit - Tue Apr 29 20:35:41 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. Today, the individual is more important than ever. 10 years is a very short time, so I can't cite a documented shift during that time. But people are not marginalized or left out because of individual differences as much as they used to be. For example, people with disabilities are being acknowledged and accommodated for their individual needs these days. 50 years ago, they would lump all children with disabilities (whether mental or physical) in the same classroom and give them a second-rate education. I think that society's responsibility has changed in that we care less about the good of the community. People no longer sacrifice themselves, or at least they're not quiet anymore if they're being ignored. Instead, we care about if our… [cont.] Answered by tritonetelephone - Tue Apr 29 20:54:24 2008 What is the oldest secret society in the world? Q. I understand that to be a "True" secreat society you would still be a secret but, historicly speaking who is it. I have found that almost all secret societies are some how tied to the "masons" The Knights templar are suposed to be the forefathers to the masons. There are even ties to Tamar and the priory of sion. What's the truth? If anyone says "Fight Club" I'm going to hurt you. Asked by red_poco2000 - Thu Jun 21 15:44:54 2007 - - 15 Answers - 0 Comments A. The Masonic Order actually predates the Knights Templar, at least in their history or pseudo-history, by about two thousand years ... so they would have to be the first. Did you know Dan Brown's next book is on the Masons and on Washington DC and the US Government? I can't wait for it to come out. Answered by John B - Thu Jun 21 15:48:45 2007 What are some reasons for society to accept and reject gay couples?
Q. My partner and I are a couple - a homesexual or a gay couple. we just want to be together without hiding all the time. I can't even tell my family about my relationship and they don't even know that i'm a gay. I wonder why society isn't more understanding. why can't people accept homosexual? Asked by miyan - Sun Aug 17 03:49:18 2008 - - 6 Answers - 1 Comments A. There are a whole bunch of archaic reasons to fear homos. The most prominent one you hear is religion. Almost every faith says something here or there about gay people being bad people, but if you wanna talk about religion then there are a whole bunch of contradictions there. I usually just say "Love thy neighbor" and walk on, but if people want to get feisty with me one that one I just bring up the whole "slavery is ok, but shaving is forbidden, oh and all women are supposed to cover their heads at all times, and no one is allowed to eat meat on fridays." The other part is the general social stigma of fearing something that you don't understand. I don't get how men can be attracted to women, but it's the norm, whereas other people don't… [cont.] Answered by Chipper - Sun Aug 17 03:57:08 2008 From Yahoo Answer Search: "Society" Quotes about society.
